Track Team at OUA’s in Windsor

| News, Track & Field

Lakehead’s indoor track team will compete at the OUA Championships this weekend, being hosted by the University of Windsor. In all, five Thunderwolves will test themselves against the best of the OUA in the longer distance events, in particular the 1500m and 3000m races.

Mason Quarrell, Tyler White and Kevin Tree represent the men’s team, while Kayla Gallo and Marla Keyes will run on the women’s side.

“The OUA Track Champs are always exciting and extremely competitive,” says coach Kip Sigsworth. “These five athletes have had great seasons and are ready to have their best performances of the year this weekend. That is always the goal – to run your best at the most important races of the year.”

Sigsworth feels good about his team’s chances at challenging the field, noting, “Tree should be right in the mix in the men’s 3k – he is ranked 9th but the top seed is only 3 seconds ahead of him. It should be a close and exciting race with lots of guys around the same level and no clear favourite.”

“Mason has shown steady improvement all season long and is fit and ready to have a break out performance,” added Sigsworth. Quarrell has had solid results so far in 2016, earning a bronze medal at the Bison Classic in the 1500m three weeks ago.
