Women’s Volleyball:

The Lakehead Women’s Volleyball team return to home action this week for the first time in 2025, and for the first time since November 23rd.

The team kicked off the second half of their OUA season this past weekend in Waterloo where they took on the Warriors. The team would drop both games to the #3 seed in the OUA, losing out 3-0 (Friday) and 3-1 (Saturday).

After the latest games, the Thunderwolves currently sit at 6-6, good enough for 8th place and holding onto the final play-off spot. This weekend’s opponent, the York Lions sit a spot behind the ‘Wolves in 9th with a 5-7 record. Needless to say these games have play-off implications attached to them, something that is sure to add an extra layer to this weekend’s proceedings.

When examining the two teams, the stats tell us that it should be an exciting weekend with some closely contested volleyball. In terms of offensive categories Lakehead sits 12th in kills per set with 10.54 while York are 13th with 10.25. The teams are again close in points per set, 10th and 12th respectively. Lakehead does find itself in a higher ranking when looking at hitting percentage with the ‘Wolves up in 6th position at .188 while the Lions sit in 10th with .163.

Defensively we see a little more disparity between the teams, with your Thunderwolves ahead on solo blocks and blocks per set while York edge the battle when it comes to total blocks, and lead total digs and digs per set.

This Saturday’s matchup will also be the team’s annual “Think Pink” night in association with the TBRHSF, with funds raised going towards breast cancer research in the region. Fans who attend the game and donate at the TBRHSF kiosks will be entered into the draw to win a Porter Airlines voucher.
