T-Wolves Welcome Quincy Johnson
The men’s basketball team has announced their first recruiting commitment of the offseason: Quincy Johnson, of Kelowna, B.C.
The 6’5 forward, who played his high school career for the Mount Boucherie Secondary School Bears, averaged 19 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 4 steals in his senior year. Quincy has also played four years on the B.C. provincial team.
“We are very excited that Quincy will be joining the Lakehead Thunderwolves next season,” says coach Manny Furtado. “As a 4 year player in the B.C. provincial program and playing in a very tough high school league, Quincy’s experience competing at a high level is something he’ll bring everyday. Quincy’s work ethic, athleticism, length and versatility will help his transition to becoming a successful student athlete in the CIS.”
Quincy will be following in the footsteps of his mother, Lynne (Brown), who played for Lakehead’s basketball program and helped them win the ’85 and ’86 GPAC championships.
“I’m excited about attending Lakehead University this fall,” exclaims Quincy. “Lakehead plays in a very competitive OUA conference. I look forward to contributing to the success of Lakehead basketball and welcome the challenge this opportunity brings, and to develop my skills as both a player and a student.”
Johnson is on track to enrol in Lakehead’s Faculty of Arts.
Kelly Broderick, Quincy’s coach at Mount Boucherie adds, “I feel very fortunate to have witnessed Quincy’s growth as a basketball player and young man. We wish Quincy all the best in becoming a successful student athlete at the CIS level with the Lakehead Thunderwolves.”
