The women’s volleyball team improved to 3-2 in OUA play on Friday evening, as they prevailed in a five-set match against the Waterloo Warriors (25-15, 9-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-13).

It was a back and forth battle on Friday, with many twists and turns along the way. Lakehead opened the game dominating the Warriors in all aspects as they would cruise to take the first set 25-15. The momentum shifted to the home side in the second set as the Warriors took over the net game with huge blocks and timely kills up the middle, taking it 25-9 to even the match at one set apiece.

After exchanging sets another time, it came down to the 5th, with Lakehead finding a way to hold on for the 15-13 road win.

For Lakehead it was Olivia Bowman doing all the damage with 21 kills and just 1 error on 45 attempts to go with two service aces and two blocks. Kailan Robinson and Jennifer Casey added seven kills each to round out the T-Wolves attack.

We started tonight well,” said Chris Green. “We saw a lot of very predictable actions on video and for the most part attacked those to begin with. In the end when it counted these tactics came through. That is the benefit of video and game prep.”

“We are grateful for the win but know we have a lot of work to do to be better. Consistency is vital and we did not get that tonight. A win is a win but quality of play must improve. Waterloo will be better tomorrow and we must be also.”

Waterloo and Lakehead will go to battle again tomorrow night at the PAC at 7pm.  The game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
