What began as a promising game went from heart breaking to hard to watch for the women’s volleyball team on Friday, as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Waterloo Warriors (25-21, 27-29, 7-25, 17-25)
After taking the first set, the ‘Wolves had a stranglehold on the second, leading 24-22. A few errors would cost them, letting the Warriors force extra points and eventually get the win. The flood gates opened in the 3rd with Lakehead only tallying 7 points in a demoralizing turn of events.
For Lakehead, it was Jennifer Casey leading the way with 12 kills while setter Vanessa Masters had 28 assists.
“Unfortunately for these athletes the opportunity shows up rarely to have good things happen. We had a very good first set, and chased some of their starters and came out solid in the second but to not put a team away with a 6-point lead and get tentative is just a lack of passion.”
“This team has to learn to put a team away and not wait for them roll over. This lack of experience was evident, and leadership was non-existent when it counted. Then to handle the disappointment with their lack of effort in the 3rd and 4th is unfortunate. Their time to think is over and call to perform is mandatory with the quick turnaround to McMaster tomorrow.”
Lakehead takes on the CIS #10 McMaster Marauders tomorrow at 1pm.
