A night after a win slipped through their fingers, the Guelph Gryphons didn’t leave anything to chance on Saturday, defeating the Thunderwolves 61-50.
Lakehead came out flat in the first quarter and clearly didn’t match the energy of the Gryphons, with Guelph racing out to a 22-9 lead after 10 minutes.
From there on out it seemed like trench warfare on the hardwood. Lakehead did mount a few rallies, but baskets were hard to come by. It was also evident from the outset that no one was getting any easy trips to the free throw line. Through three quarters the two teams combined for 20 total free throws. When they did get to the line, the ‘Wolves struggled, going 9-for-16.
Bacarius Dinkins led Lakehead with 21 points and 6 rebounds.
