It was a solid performance for Lakehead wrestlers Saturday at the McMaster Invitational.
Chris Waltner (57kg) won the gold medal, and defeated last year’s OUA gold medallist, Sam Jagas of Brock U. In doing so Waltner was named as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
On the women’s side Dana Campbell, of Thunder Bay, captured the gold medal in the 72kg division. Emma Horner placed 4th in a tough 59kg division that featured two CIS champions in the mix.
Rounding out ‘Top 6’ results were Drew Anderson (5th in 100kg), Kevin Leatherdale (5th, 61kg) and Brody Evans (5th, 82kg).
Coach Francis Clayton:
“This was a good test for us, we showed big improvements since our meet vs Winnipeg. The team won a total of 18 matches in an event that featured all the OUA schools.”
