Five Wrestlers Place at York Open

Seven Lakehead wrestlers took part in the York Open on Saturday, with five placing in the top 5 of their respective weight classes.
Emma Horner, Lakehead’s lone female competitor, was dominant once again, winning all four of her matches and the gold medal in the 59kg.
Kevin Leatherdale placed 4th in the 61 kg, winning 3 while losing 2 of his matches. Chris Waltner (51kg) Cesar Fleurant (82kg) and Drew Anderson (100kg) all placed 5th in their classes.
It was a tougher day for Brody Evans (82kg) and Tyler Ashurst (76kg), who were able to earn a win each, but also took 2 losses apiece which put them out of the points standings.
“It was a strong event with all OUA teams attending along with the U of Alberta and 2 teams from the USA,” said coach Francis Clayton. “I was pleased with the results, it gives us a lot to work with moving forward.”
The team will resume competition in the new year on January 9 at the Brock Open.
