The were good signs from the Lakehead track team at the Boston U Valentine in Massachusetts over the weekend, with Tyler White running a new personal best in the mile.
Both White (photo left) and Mason Quarrell placed 2nd in their sections, and 97th and 94th overall, respectively. Kevin Tree ran his first race of the season, placing 4th in his section of the 3,000m and 30th overall.
“Tyler had a great race running a personal best time of 4:18.36. Mason had a tough time with lots of bumping and jostling but finished really well once he found some room to move on the last lap.”
In the men’s 3km Kevin Tree ran his first race of the season and opened up well. After a very slow first half he towed the field through a quick second half before getting out kicked on the last lap – finishing 4th in his heat and 30th overall in a time for 8:17.79.
“Awesome meet this weekend and some very encouraging results. Both Tyler and Mason looked great in the mile and the good news is I think they are just scratching the surface of what they can do. Tree has been focusing on getting ready for racing 12km at FISU Cross in a month so we were not sure where he would be but running only 1s off his best in a race that started so slow is a really good sign that he is on the right track. With two weeks until OUA’s things are looking good.”
