The Lakehead women’s volleyball team earned a big win, 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 25-22), this afternoon against the University of Windsor.

“This afternoons game showed some spurts of tactical growth but also displayed our lack of aggression when it counts. We came out and built a lead, lost it but then regained it by running a smart planned offence” – Coach Green

The ‘Wolves came out strong this afternoon taking the lead from the get-go. The Lancers spurred back making it a tight game with both teams going point for point. Lakehead was able to win the set 25-23 with a big kill by Kailan Robinson.

Now with the momentum, the Thunderwolves continued to battle against the Lancers. By the technical timeout, Windsor led 16-15 but Lakehead created a slight lead at 23-20 with a service ace by Olivia Bowman and the ‘Wolves held on, taking the second set 25-23.

Windsor was able to get the lead in the third set early on at 6-3. For the remainder of the set, the Lancers continued their momentum and took the set 25-14.

Lakehead was not going to let all the hard work they did in the first two sets go to waste. They came out strong from the beginning until Windsor obtained a small lead of 14-10. Lakehead bounced back and tied it at 19-19. The ‘Wolves were able to get a 3 point lead and held on winning the set 25-22.

“Third set was disappointing in the lapse we showed but that was choice again. We stopped running the offence over Windsor’s leftside and we changed our block pattern on their middles.”-Coach Green

Olivia Bowman had 15 kills and 3 aces and Kailan Robinson had 13 kills tonight along with 10 digs.

Coach Green:

“Kailan Robinson again swung at 40 plus balls and that’s 2 nights in a row within 24 hrs. She worked hard to remain consistent. Olivia Bowman came in and provided a great spark of smart tactical play and Rheanna Geisel had another strong night with high efficiency in her offence. Jen Hammerton finished with 48 assists, a season high for her, and finally they got back to serving extremely tough. We finished the night with 14 aces.”

The Thunderwolves will now break until January 14, 2017 where they will play at home against Toronto.
