Lakehead Wrestlers selected to Wrestling Canada’s Junior National Program
Marco Palermo and Madison Clayton have been selected to be a part of the Wrestling Canada’s Junior National Program that will compete in Sassari, Italy and Bucharest, Romania later this spring. Marco will join the National Junior Team at 61 KG and Madison is the National Team Alternate at 62 KG.
Madison Clayton comments on her accomplishment:
“Travelling internationally is an opportunity I have not been given much of in my wrestling career. Being a part of Team Canada is one of the many goals I have strived to achieve. In saying this I know I have a lot of work to do to improve myself for the future. These training sessions and international competitions will lead me in the directions to improve my techniques and stamina. I am also happy that I would have the chance to represent our nation and a sport that has meant so much to me in my life. Finally, I would love to thank the coaching staff, athletic therapists and not just my training partners but all the athletes at Lakehead University for providing a positive training environment.”
Palermo was named Lakehead Athlete of the Year and is a repeat Junior National Champion. He continuously placed in the top all season long in his competitions as well as earned a silver at OUAs and a bronze at the U SPORTS championships this season. Clayton has played a big role in the women’s team success this year as she placed second at the Ontario Juniors and 4th at OUAs where the team earned a silver medal.
“This is a good opportunity for both Marco and Madison and shows that our program is heading in the right direction,” says Head Coach Francis Clayton.
