The men’s cross country running team travels to Guelph this weekend to take part in the CIS Championship race, hosted by Guelph University on Saturday.
The 10 km race may well see a new championship team crowned, as it is expected that Guelph, whose program has captured both the women’s and men’s CIS banner for a remarkable 9 consecutive years, will face an unprecedented challenge from the field of CIS competitors.
“CIS is always a super competitive and exciting meet and I expect this year to be no exception,” says coach Kip Sigsworth.
Fifth year veteran Aulagnon (photo left) hopes to make the most of his final cross country race as a Thunderwolf. In last year’s CIS race, he placed a respectable 37th after getting spiked early in the race and finishing despite a bloody and broken foot.
As Sigsworth notes, the best of the season could be yet to come for his group of trail running Thunderwolves.
Kevin Tree captured the program’s first medal in 15 years at the OUA race two weeks ago, and hopes to be on the podium on Saturday, as he explained in an interview last week.
