Kailan Robinson 15-16It was trouble from the start against the undefeated Blues (15-0), who have only lost 2 sets all season in OUA play. The CIS #3 ranked team took the first set easily, leading 16-5 at the technical time-out and cruising from there.

“We saw this afternoon what a skilled and physical team is like,” said coach Chris Green post game. “Toronto brings concentration to the court everyday and follow their game plan.”

The Blues game plan was slightly compromised in the second set, with Lakehead pushing back, but not enough as they scored 18 points in the frame.

The final set was more or less a formality, with the Blues dispatching the ‘Wolves with relative ease, 25-8.

Despite trying to serve the Blues tough, Lakehead committed eight service errors, with Kailan Robinson and Leah Mousseau scoring the only two aces from the service line.

Robinson (photo left) was the ‘Wolves kill leader with 10, and Leah Mousseau made 7 kills on the game. As a team Lakehead had a .082 efficiency rating on the attack, compared to .321 for the Blues, who were led by Caleigh Cruikshank with 7 kills and 4 service aces.

“In the end you need attention to detail to succeed,” commented coach Green. “We’ve got a lot to learn about that mindset. Today saw our most physical leftside rebound from an average performance last night to have a solid game.today. Kailan was solid and we can’t be happier for her. Hopefully our rookies learned what they have to work on from playing against a top notch team like Toronto, who exposed our weaknesses.”

With the loss the women’s record falls to 5-12, with two games remaining versus Windsor next week in the Thunderdome.
