The Lakehead women’s volleyball team (6-13) beat the Brock Badgers (6-13) 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16) tonight in the Thunderdome in their last regular season game.
The Thunderwolves continued their momentum after last nights 3-0 win and started the game off strong. Lakehead took the first set 25-18.
Both teams continued to battle in the second as the Badgers picked up a lead nearing the end of the set. Lakehead trailed 24-23 in hopes to tie it up but a solid block put the ball out of bounds and gave the second set to the Badgers.
Lakehead came back in the third to win 25-18 and carried on in the fourth to lead 24-16 until the Badgers received a red card that gave the final point to the Thunderwolves to end the game.
“Well, a tougher match tonight. Brock was much more effective on offense. That challenged us in a very aggressive fashion. We worked hard at trying to handle their right side attacker, and she lit us up but our answer was to spread our offense and counteract their strengths. Meghan Routier (20 Points) was lights out, Leah (13 points) and Ciara passed amazing and Rheanna (18 Points) was on fire in her offense and serving. All that gave us balance. Our Seniors gave us everything, we will miss Leah, Jen and Christie! Jessica and Rheanna showed they are strengths for us into next season. Our depth is solid, the growth is obvious and we look forward to getting back in the gym in a week to work for next season. A HUGE thank you to our fans!! Dedicated and proud!” – Coach Chris Green
The Thunderwolves honoured their seniors tonight who have put so much hard work and dedication into the women’s volleyball program. This concludes the Thunderwolves 2017/18 volleyball season.
