Women’s Volleyball:

The Lakehead Women’s Volleyball return to the Thunderdome for their final OUA games of the season.

Despite a tough second-half of the season, the team is still in the midst of their most successful season since the 2017/18, with a record of 6-12 going into this weekend’s matchup against the Western Mustangs.

The visiting Mustangs sit 3rd in the OUA and will be heading to the post-season when the regular season concludes this weekend. Despite being playoff bound the London-based squad have suffered 4 losses on the bounce, which has opened the door to the final ranks shifting after this weekend with Waterloo and McMaster also sitting with a record of 13-5.

Western sit 8th the OUA in Kills per Set (11.57 k/s), and just above in 7th when it comes to Hitting Percentage (.199).  A fascinating encounter will be taking on the defensive-side of the game in what could be coined as the “Battle of the Liberos”. Western’s 2nd year defensive specialist Madeline Pelosi, sits 4th in both Digs (213) and Digs per Set (3.67) in the OUA. Pelosi will be facing the OUA’s Digs per Set leader, and first year sensation Ashley Lawrence who sits atop the category with 3.86 d/s. Lawrence is also 3rd in total digs, racking up 228 across the season.

This Saturday’s game will also see Alexis Cancade, Hannah Gingera and Sarah Gordon recognized as the team’s graduating seniors – be sure to come on out and support these graduating athletes as they step out at the Thunderdome for the last time!
