Three Lakehead wrestlers competed at the CIS Championships over the weekend in Edmonton at the University of Alberta.
Emma Horner fared the best among Thunderwolves, winning the silver medal in the 59kg weight class. She was defeated by Indira Moore of the Brock Badgers in a close fought gold medal match that was determined by 1-1 decision. Horner scored first due to passivity on Moore’s part in the first round. Unfortunately Horner was scored upon in the same fashion by Moore in the second round. As a result of Horner’s passivity penalty coming last in the match, Moore was ruled to be the winner.
Kelsey Dayler finished in 5th place in the 67kg, after defeating Nicole Roach of the McMaster Marauders with a 6-2 decision in their final match of the tournament.
Chris Waltner won his final match, 16-7 versus Steven McCarville of the Alberta Golden Bears to earn the 5th place standing in the 54kg division.
