The men’s baseball club went 1-2 on their road trip over the weekend against U Wisconsin-Superior.
Thus completes the Thunderwolves’ autumn schedule (and all NCBA conference play), their conference record 3-9, and overall record 5-10.
This is the first time in 3 years that Lakehead has completed their NCBA conference schedule without any hiccups due to extreme weather conditions (i.e. rain) that hampered their conference schedule in years past. This season all of their conference games were in the fall, as opposed to splitting them between the fall and spring months as had formerly been the case.
In Saturday’s doubleheader, the ‘Wolves took one on the chin the first game (15-5), before rallying to make for a close loss in game 2 (10-9). The ‘Wolves scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning to tie it at 9 before the Yellow Jackets countered in the bottom of the inning for a walk off win.
In Sunday’s contest the ‘Wolves bats were on fire, as they lit up the scoreboard for 23 runs to Superior’s 10.
“It was frustrating at times this weekend,” said Lakehead coach Jason Hart.”All of those games were winnable. We’re young and are going to get better, we just need to keep on working hard. Moving forward, hopefully we can get more results from our recruiting efforts as well.”
