Men’s basketball coach Manny Furtado announced Manitoban recruit Jon Hayter today, who arrives at Lakehead following a 2-year playing career for the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers.
The 6’0″ point guard from Pinawa ranked near the top in several statistical categories in the Manitoba Colleges Athletics Conference, including scoring (16.9/game) rebounding (7.5/game) and minutes played (33/game). Hayter also registered a 33-point game, the highest for the MCAC 15-16 season.
“We are very pleased that Jon has accepted his offer to study Kinesology here at Lakehead and be a part of our basketball program,” says coach Furtado. “Jon is a very athletic point guard that can get the ball up the floor quickly. His ability to defend and rebound as a guard will help our team going forward.”
“I choose lakehead because of the support I felt on my visit from both the academic department and basketball team. I think Lakehead University is the best school for me to succeed as a student athlete. I’m looking forward to helping the team make a run at a championship and pursue my degree in Kinesiology.”
