Lakehead’s men’s basketball team travels to Hamilton this weekend to face the McMaster Marauders in a double-header weekend. The Marauders sit fifth in the OUA West with a record of 6-8, while Lakehead is three spots behind McMaster with a record of 3-11. Both squads enter having split last weekend’s games, with each having lost their last.
“For us, this weekend,” Thunderwolves head coach Ryan Thomson says, “being able to defend and execute our game plan at a high level will be key.”
All of McMaster’s wins have come at home, but Lakehead does have a road win in OUA play this season.
“McMaster is led by two seniors who have a great deal of experience and talent in David McCullough and Connor Gilmore,” Thomson says. “Mac plays hard and every one of their guys that steps on the floor is ready to make a play.”
With a weekend sweep, Lakehead could move up two spots in OUA West rankings, to sixth, McMaster cannot drop below fifth.
“It should be a competitive weekend,” Thomson says, “so long as we control the things we can control, like our shot selection and effort level.”
The men’s games tip off at 8pm on both Friday, January 18th, and Saturday, January 19th at Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton, following the women’s games.
