Lakehead skiers are in the Ottawa region for OUA Championships this weekend, being hosted by Carleton University at the Nakkertok Nordic Ski Club.
Lakehead’s women’s team is going for their 12th straight OUA championship, while the men’s team will attempt to regain the OUA title that eluded them last season. It will be a daunting task for both teams, as they will be without two of their top skiers, Sadie White and Scott Hill, who are representing Canada at the World U23 and Jr. championships in Romania.
“It’s certainly a different challenge when your best skiers are off representing Canada at the global scale, and we are left leaning on the rest of our squad, but that’s what teammates are there for, to step up for one another when the opportunity presents itself. This weekend is that opportunity for lots of skiers.”

The first races of the championship will be the men’s and women’s 7.5 km Interval Free, taking place on Friday, Feb. 19 at 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively. Saturday, Feb. 20 will showcase the men’s 3×3 km team relay at 10:00 a.m. and the women’s 3×3 km team relay at 11:00 a.m.The final events will take place Sunday, Feb. 21, as the women’s 10 km mass start is set to take place at 9:00 a.m. and the men’s 10 km mass start is to begin at 10:00 a.m.
