With a fresh few centimeters of wet snow overnight, the OUA Nordic Skiing Championships kicked off this morning with the Men’s 10km and Women’s 5km Classic Interval Start at Lappe Nordic Ski Centre.
Despite the conditions, the athletes were ready to compete with Carleton proving they are once again a top contender in Nordic Skiing. Aidan Kirkham of the Ravens set the pace on the men’s side finishing first in 0:34:53.5. The Thunderwolves are hungry for the title with Gavin Shields coming in second in 0:35:38.1 and Noah Thompson coming in fourth in 0:35:59.4. Jordan Cascagnette finished third for the Nipissing Lakers.
On the women’s side, the Ravens finished 4 athletes in the top 5. Zoë Williams came in first in 0:19:41.9 with her teammate Alyssa Stowe not far behind coming in at second. Thunderwolves Camille Ham finished third in 0:21:13.5 along with Emily Jones (Carleton) and Adrienne Hynes (Carleton) coming in fourth and fifth.

The Men’s and Women’s 3x3km Relay Classic begins tomorrow at 2:00pm with the competition wrapping up on Sunday, February 25 with the Men’s 15km Mass Start Free Technique (9:30am) and Women’s 10km Mass Start Free Technique (10:30am).
