“Marco Palermo won his third USPORTS and OUA championship, domination the 61kg weight division. At Usports Marco also won the most matches in the least amount of time in the men’s championship, winning four matches while being on the mat for only 10 minutes and 27 seconds. Marco was named first team all Canadian.”

Madison Clayton

Hometown: Thunder Bay, ON

Program: Social Work and French

“Madison Clayton won a silver medal in the women’s 63 kg class at both the OUA and Usports. At Usports Madison won her first 3 matches by pin. Madison was named second OUA All-Star and second team all Canadian.”

Isaiah Traylor

Year: 5

Hometown: Tupelo, MS, USA

Program: General Arts

“Isaiah finished the regular season with a fantastic performance against Queen’s, scoring 40 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a win. Isaiah led the team in scoring for the 19-20 season, averaging 22.1 points per game while also grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game. Isaiah was named an OUA First Team All-Star in his final season. Congratulations Isaiah.“

Niko Dowhos

1st in the 60m in a time of 6.93 (=PB) and 1st in the 4 X 200m relay in a time of 1:32.94

OUA Champs:

3rd in the 60m in a time of 6.87 (PB)

“Niko had a great month and showed huge improvement. He went into the OUA Champs ranked 9th and surprised the field with his 3rd place finish. Niko enters the USports Champs ranked 10th.”

Amy Stieh

Year: 1

Hometown: Shuniah, ON

Program: Physics

UWS Yellowjacket Invite: 

1st in the 600m in a time of 1:36.16 (New Facility Record)

OUA Champs: 

3rd in the 300m in a time of 39.37 and 5th in the 600m in a time of 1:32.72

“Amy continued her impressive rookie season with more great results during February. She had her best meet of the season so far at the OUA Champs, improving on her seeds in both her races and running a big personal best in the 600m. Amy enter the USports Champs in Edmonton this week ranked 8th in the 300m and 11th in the 600m.”

 

Hockey

Callum Fryer 

Year: 5

Hometown: Oakville, ON

Program: Environmental Science

“Callum was out for the first half of the season with a shoulder injury. After returning it did not take long for his game to round into shape as one of the best defensive players in the OUA 

Relied on for playing against the other teams top players, first unit Penalty Kill. Callum averaged more than 25 minutes of ice, most on the team. A leader both on and off the ice, we wish callum all the best as he pursues a pro opportunity for the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye”

 

Nordic Skiing

Andy Shields

Year: 1

Hometown: Kitchener, ON

Program: Kinesiology 

“Andy Shields came into the ski season with a bang claiming a gold, silver, and a bronze medal at the OUA Championships in Sault Ste. Marie. He led his teammates to a second place finish in the team standings. We are fortunate to have Andy on our team in his rookie season after spending many years on the national and international circuit. We are looking forward to his strong leadership at the National Championships in Silver Star, BC later this month.”

Alannah MacLean

Year: 6

Hometown: Sudbury, ON

Program: Medicine 

“Fresh off the trails in Sault Ste. Marie at the OUA Championships, this veteran claimed 3 golds and came away with the OUA MVP title. Alannah MacLean led the lady wolves to a gold medal in the relay and a second place overall in the team standings. She has been a part of numerous championship teams in her time with the program, including claiming the National University aggregate title last season and representing Canada at the World Cup finals in Quebec City last March. She is the ultimate team player and brings a positive attitude and hard work ethic to all she does. We are proud of her accomplishments both on and off the trials. We are looking forward to see what her and the lady wolves will accomplish at the National Championships at the end of March.”

Megan Nahachewsky

Program: Nursing

“Megan has been a starter for us all year as a first year. In the month of February she led our team in kills with 31. She finishes the year with the most kills on our team with 128 and played in all 19 of our league matches and appeared in every set that we played. She most recently has been named to the OUA West All Rookie Team which is a huge accomplishment. We have been able to rely on her all year and she has taken huge strides as a first year player. Congratulations Megan.”
