Lakehead’s Cross Country Runners are heading to the University of Toronto this weekend to race at the OUA Championships held on October 30th.
“The athletes are fit and for the most part healthy so we are ready to go”, comments Coach Sigsworth. “We have had some great individual results this season and now we just need everyone to run their best on the same day.”
Kevin Tree continues to grow as an athlete every season and is having a fantastic year thus far winning 1st in both the Griak and Blugold Invitationals. Last year, Kevin Tree received an OUA bronze, and earned a spot on the OUA’s first all-star team but he will be looking to improve upon his career best this upcoming weekend and stay undefeated.
The men successfully placed 5th at the 2015 OUA’s and will strive to run better as a unit with a group including freshmen and seniors.
“Looking Forward to this weekend. This will be our first race where we’re pretty rested going in, so i’m looking forward to seeing how we perform as a team. We definitely don’t want this to be our last race of the season.” -Kevin Tree
Overall, the women placed 9th last year, with Heather Maxfield placing 49th , Kayla Gallo finishing 54th and Natasha Frank 75th. Maxfield is coming of a great run at the Queen’s Invitational where she finished 22nd overall. The women’s team has experience running in the OUA’s and understand what challenges they will face.
The Lakehead runners are going into this weekend with the men’s ranked 10thand the women ranked 13th in the overall U Sports rankings.
