Lakehead’s wrestling team has qualified three wrestlers to compete at the CIS championships, happening this weekend (Fri-Sat) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

From the women’s team, Emma Horner (59kg) and Kelsey Dayler (67kg) qualified for the CIS tournament after Horner went 3-0 at OUA’s and won gold, while Dayler grabbed the silver medal in her weight class.

Both Horner and Dayler competed at last year’s CIS tournament, Horner bringing home silver while Dayler won the bronze medal.

At this year’s tournament, Horner will have to battle the Canada West silver medalist and the OUA bronze medalist to go through to the latter stages.

Chris Waltner (54kg), photo above, got all the way to the final round at OUA’s two weeks ago before he was forced to settle for the OUA silver medal. He will try to improve on his outing at the CIS tournament from last season, where he finished 4th.

He’ll have his work cut out for him, as he’ll have to get past the Canada West gold and bronze medalists, and the Atlantic silver medalist in the preliminary rounds on Friday.

Webcast of the CIS Championship Tournament will be available via CIS TV
