Thunderwolves men’s b-ballers drop another game, taking losing streak into break

| Basketball (M), News

The Lakehead men’s basketball team lost another tight match Friday, dropping their final game of 2018 to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 78-75.

“It’s a disappointing way to finish the semester,” Thunderwolves head coach Ryan Thomson said. “That said, we battled and competed in the second half of a game that could have gotten away from us.”

Lakehead won both quarters of the second half, taking the third by a score of 22-13 and fourth by a score of 24-19. Ultimately, it was too little too late, as the Thunderwolves took a 46-29 deficit into the half.

“We need to come with that same energy from the start of games,” Thomson said, “not just once we’re down.”

Guard Nick Burke paced the Thunderwolves with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 29 minutes. Davarius Wright added 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Isaiah Traylor added 16 points and 6 rebounds.

The loss brings Lakehead’s men’s team to 2-8, and continues a seven-game losing streak.

The Thunderwolves now head into the semester break, and will return to the Thunderdome on January 11th and 12th to face the Windsor Lancers in their next home games.
