Lakehead’s women’s volleyball team returned to the Thunderdome Friday night, dropping a hard-fought match to the Guelph Gryphons. Lakehead took only one of four sets, but the result does not reflect how close the sets were, with three going into extra points.
“Tonight was a battle,” Thunderwolves head coach Craig Barclay said. “It was two good teams going point for point.”
Notably, Lakehead finished with 70 total points to Guelph’s 69.5, illustrating how tight the match was. The night saw over 150 digs shared between the two squads.
“It came down to a few errors, but this was a great team effort tonight,” Barclay said. “We did exactly what we wanted to on offense and were more efficient.”
Thunderwolves Meghan Routier, Haleigh Kearns, and Rheanna Geisel all finished with double-digit kills, with Meghan contributing a leading 14. Michaela Hellinga of Guelph had a match-leading 18 kills on 35 attempts.
The two squads will face off at the Thunderdome again on Saturday night at 7pm.
“We’re ready for another battle,” Barclay says.
