The Thunderwolves women’s volleyball team began regular-season play with a resounding win, beating the Trent Excalibur in three straight sets. The win also marked first-year head coach Craig Barclay’s introduction at the helm.
“Today we played a team in Trent who doesn’t give up,” Barclay said. “They showed that all match.” The Thunderwolves won 25-23, 25-16, and 25-22.
Rebekah Hara and Rheanna Geisel led the team with four kills each in the first set. Geisel added four digs and one ace in the first, and led all players in the match with 12 total kills.
“We did a good job controlling the serve and pass game and did a good job executing our game plan,” Barclay said.
“Today we played a team in Trent who doesn’t give up, they showed that all match. We did a good job controlling the serve and pass game and did a good job executing our game plan. It was great to see the team come out and control the pace and tempo of the match right from the start.”
With the win, Lakehead moves to 1-0 in regular season play. They face Waterloo next weekend, with the matches beginning at 7pm on November 2nd and 3rd.
