Lakehead’s track & field team competed at the McGill Team Challenge meet in Montreal this past weekend.
“There were some good things this weekend, but overall it wasn’t the meet we were looking for,” Thunderwolves coach Kip Sigsworth said. “We didn’t take advantage of this great opportunity to put down some fast times as a group.”
Lakehead runner Rebekkah Pyle continued this year’s successful campaign by finishing 4th in the women’s 3km, with a personal best of 9:56.51. Pyle is currently 9th in USPORTS national rankings.
Braedan Prochnicki finished with times of 7.13 (prelim.) and 7.11 (final) in the men’s 60m dash open, as well as with a time of 36.96 in the 300m dash open. Janet Chukwu ran the women’s 60m dash open preliminaries in a time of 8.13, Tia Lampo ran the women’s 300m dash open in 42.93, and Isaac Lapp ran the men’s 600m run open in 1:26.07.
“We need to be more competitive and fight when it gets hard,” Sigsworth said. “The second day of the meet was better, but still not our best.”
The Thunderwolves track & field team is again on the road this coming weekend, heading to Winnipeg to compete in the University of Manitoba’s Bison Open.
“There is still a month until OUA championships,” Sigsworth said, “and we will learn and grow from the McGill meet. We’ll be tougher next time.”
