Coach Chris Green announced another addition to the women’s volleyball team on Thursday, this time 5’8” setter Haley Mehlhorn of the Regina, Saskatchewan.
Mehlhorn, who played for Archbishop M.C. O’Neill H.S. and currently with the Strasbourg Volleyball Club, has signed a letter of intent to attend Lakehead University as a Thunderwolf in the fall semester.
“We’ve added another setter to our lineup that will keep the level of competition high in practice and provide Lakehead with strength at this position for the future,” says Green.
Haley brings with her a great set of hands, with the benefit of a deep and diverse background of training.
Among her credits Mehlhorn counts a 2014 Senior Girls All-star in Regina, 2013 MVP on her high school team, and is a Volleyball Canada Center of Excellence athlete in Saskatchewan. She is also aspiring to make the Saskatchewan provincial team for their summer schedule.
Coach Green continues, “Haley brings a wealth of training credits to Lakehead. Her desire to play at the next level is a true indication of her passion and desire. She has had multiple training and development streams in her path to the next level. Any player who puts that time and energy into their development is clearly passionate. Passion is a valuable tool for the next level and feeds the growth it requires to play.”
Haley exclaims, “I’m fully confident that Lakehead University is the right choice for me and I am looking forward to studying Kinesiology. It is the perfect place for me to grow and develop as a person, student and athlete. Leaving home will get me out of my comfort zone, which is why choosing a smaller school was important to me. I know that the transition will go well with the support and encouragement from my family and teammates.”
Mehlhorn concluded her remarks by saying, “I am honored to have the opportunity to work with Chris Green and look forward to joining the volleyball program at Lakehead and help contribute to its success. I am so excited to be a Thunderwolf and to meet the rest of my Lakehead Family!”
