The Lakehead women’s volleyball team returns to their home court this weekend for a two-night matchup with the Waterloo Warriors.
“This will be a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against a talented team,” Thunderwolves head coach Craig Barclay says.
Waterloo is currently ranked 8th in Canada’s national USPORTS ranking. The Warriors went 5-1 in preseason play, including a win against Alberta, last year’s national runner up, and a five-set loss to Ryerson, last year’s national champion. Waterloo is currently undefeated in OUA play with a record of 1-0 after taking down the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph last weekend.
“We are going to have to serve aggressively and block well to put Waterloo in tough situations,” Barclay says. The Thunderwolves also enter the match undefeated, having beaten the Trent Excalibur in three straight sets last weekend at the Thunderdome. Rachel Sweezey provided three solo blocks and Rheanna Geisel added another two in the match.
“Waterloo is a good team and is very well coached,” Barclay says. “They have had a chance to experience many different situations this year which adds to their experience.”
The two squads face off at 7pm on both Friday and Saturday in a two-game weekend.
