Tree Paces 2nd Division in California 10k

Kevin Tree ran the fastest 10 km time of any Canadian thus far in the 2016 outdoor track season at the Mt San Antonio College Relays yesterday in Norwalk, California.

Kevin Tree 14-15Tree placed first the 2nd fastest section (of 4) in the 10,000m race and placed 13th overall with a time of 29:20.49. That time eclipsed his personal best by a whopping 39 seconds.

The Mt. Sac Relays in Norwalk (just outside of Los Angeles) is one of the best distance meets in North America. With perfect weather and fast fields, this meet attracts runners from all over the continent looking to run fast times.

Tree ran his usual patient race, content to sit in the pack for the first 5k, coming through the midway point in 14:48. At 6km the pace started to slow so Tree was forced to take over the lead to ensure a fast race. He traded off the lead with a few other runners between 6 and 8km before pulling away from the field over the last 2km and winning his section by over 5 seconds.

Tree’s 10k time is the fastest of any Canadian thus far in the outdoor season.

Next up for Tree is a 5,000m at the Penn Relays in two weeks in Philadelphia. It is the oldest and largest track and field meet in the U.S., dating back to 1895.
