Will McDonough Joins Lakehead Running

Coach Kip Sigsworth and the Lakehead cross country/track program are excited to announce the commitment of Will McDonough for the upcoming season.

Coming from Hammarskjold High School, Will is the third McDonough to now compete as a Thunderwolf following his siblings Joe (XC and Track) and Kielly (Basketball). Will is pursuing his Honours Bachelor of Commerce at Lakehead.

“I’m excited to pursue my future in academics and athletics at Lakehead University,” says Will. “Being able to represent my hometown in Track and Cross Country is one of the reasons Lakehead was my top choice. I believe in Coach Sigsworth, my future teammates, and all of the Thunderwolves that will help me reach my full potential as a student-athlete.”

McDonough’s personal bests include 51.3 in the 400m, 1:22.7 in the 600m and 1:54.6 in the 800m.

Coach Sigsworth explains, “We are pleased that Will has chosen to continued his athletic and academic pursuits at Lakehead. Will had an up and down high school career but has shown that when he is healthy and focused he has the ability to compete at the highest level. I am excited to get the opportunity to continue working with him at the university level.”

The Thunderwolves are competing in a number of events over the summer including the Yutc Twilight meet on July 24 in Toronto, the Speedriver twilight July 31 in Guelph and the Hamilton PB night and Last Chance runs on August 6 and August 14.
