Things went from bad to worse in the second game, the 10-run ‘mercy rule’ being employed after the end of the 6th inning.
James Shaw got banged up for 9 earned runs in 4 innings of work with 5 walks and one strikeout.
The Bison got to Shaw early, scoring 2 runs in the first followed by 4 more in the second. Lakehead couldn’t seem to connect on offense, stranding 7 base runners over the course of the game, and getting only 3 hits.
Coach Jason Hart:
“It’s another tough beginning to a series – we thought coming into this that we had a shot at evening up our record, and that’s our goal, to play .500 ball on the season. The schedule’s tough, but we really need more of our guys to step up and make plays when we need them to.”
Lakehead Player of the Game: Keifer Sutch, 1-2, double.
