Samantha Connolly | Cross Country

It was great weekend for the Lakehead cross-country team at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Invite.

The men’s team placed 5th overall, with Kevin Tree winning 1st again for his second consecutive weekend.

“I was very pleased with how the athletes learned from the mistakes they made last week and improved this week” said Coach Sigsworth.

Tree ran with the group until him and Eau Claire runner, Darin Lau, both broke away from the pack. In the end, Tree finished the race 11 seconds ahead of Lau with a time of 24:42.

Coach Sigsworth was happy with the performance of the entirety of his team and how they competed. Derek Patterson (31) finished with a time of 26:25 followed by Tyler White (46) and Gavin Sheilds (47) coming across the finish line together at 26:45 and 26:47. Joe McDonough (67), Andrew Galloway (105), Josh Stovel (197) and Kyle Dennett (259) also respectively finish for the Thunderwolves.

On the women’s side, Heather Maxfield (53) ran a good race and put up a time of 24:44 and Natasha Frank (109) at 26:12.

“I though we were much tougher through the middle of the race and competed well when things got tough. Tree ran great again but the guys behind him were much better today.” – Coach Sigsworth
