ActiveU Camp FAQ’s

Q: What is the age range for ActiveU?

ActiveU camps are for campers who are entering Grades 1 through 7 in September 2024 – this includes children born starting in 2012 through 2018. Campers should be registered for their groups based on their birth year as follows:

  • Wolf Pups – Born in 2017 and 2018
  • Lightning – Born in 2015 and 2016
  • Thunder – Born in 2012, 2013, or 2014

Q: What does a typical day look like for campers at ActiveU?

Drop off is from 8:30 am to 9:00 am, and we keep the children busy throughout the day with 4-5 activities, 2 snack breaks, a 45-minute lunch, and 1 hour of pool time! During our week long camps (March Break and Summer), our camps will include visits with various faculty and staff to help learn more about the campus. The children are kept busy until pick-up, which is between 4:00 and 5:00 pm.

Q: What are some of the activities that the campers will participate in?

We try to have as much variety in our days as possible! Generally, our activities are based on a specific sport, such as basketball, soccer, dodgeball, tag, or ultimate frisbee, to name a few. To mix things up, we also have activities that are facilitated by guest faculty members, some craft based activities such as a camp favourite, tie-dye, and we love to spend as much time outside as we can!

Q: My child is not a very comfortable swimmer – can they still participate in swim time?

Yes. Every camper will be given a swim test at the start of every camp, which consists of swimming 25m without touching the bottom or sides of the pool, and they must put their face in the water at least 3 times. After the test your child will be given a band that indicates one of 3 levels. Level 1 bands mean they must wear a lifejacket and stay in the shallow end. Level 2 bands they do not need to wear lifejacket but must stay in the shallow end. Level 3 means they can go in the deep end.

We  encourage campers who are not comfortable swimming to bring a lifejacket with them for use, however lifejackets are also available. Your child’s safety is our #1 concern while in the pool. ActiveU staff are required to be in the pool during swim time, and extra life guards are on duty during this time.

Please note that throughout the week, if staff are concerned regarding about your child’s swimming ability, they may adjust your child’s swim band level accordingly to ensure a safe environment for all.

Q: Is there a cancellation or refund policy?

Cancellations made at least 10 business days prior to the program start date will receive a refund in full.

Cancellations made within 1-9 business days prior to the program start date will receive a refund less a $25 administrative fee.

Cancellations made after the program start date will not receive a refund.

No refund will be given if a child leaves ActiveU on their own accord, is a “no show”, or is expelled due to behaviour.

Q: Is ActiveU Nut-Free?

We ask that all campers back nut-free snacks and lunches. However, we are in a public facility and cannot guarantee there will be no exposure to nut products.

Q: How much food do I need to pack for my child?

Campers will have two nutritional snacks each day alongside lunch time, so please ensure your child has enough snacks for both morning and afternoon snack! For younger children, we find it beneficial for snacks to be labelled.

Q: How do you handle behavioural issues or discipline?

At ActiveU we feel each camper should have fun. In the event of misbehavior from one person or a group of people, ActiveU staff will work diligently to make sure it does not impact negatively on the rest of the campers. ActiveU works on a three-strike policy. Any behaviours that can be portrayed as bullying and harassment are not tolerated and will result in dismissal from camp.

Strike One: Any camper who fails to adhere to camp rules, or exhibits behaviour that is clearly intended to annoy or endanger other campers or themselves, will be privately and formally warned by staff about their inappropriate behaviour.

Strike Two: A camper who chooses to continue their misbehaviour will result in a conversation with  the camp coordinator. At this time they will be told that further misbehavior will result in a phone call to their parent or guardian, or discussion at pick-up.

Strike Three: Any further inappropriate behaviour will result in a meeting with parents and the Camp Coordinator and expulsion from camp.

  • Campers who are expelled from camp for disciplinary reasons will not receive a refund of any fees paid to attend camp.
  • Any of the above steps may be repeated at the discretion of camp staff.

NOTE: Behaviour strikes carry over week to week to returning campers throughout the summer.

Q: What can I expect for drop-off and pickup?

Drop-off for ActiveU camps is between 8:30-9:00am. Should you need to drop off your child earlier than this, please select the extended care add-on when registering, and this will allow for a 8:00am drop off. During drop-off, campers will be able to choose from different activity stations such as colouring, low-org games, or sports!

Pickup for ActiveU Camps is between 4:00-5:00pm. During this time, campers are kept busy with activity stations as well! Please note that government-issued ID will be required for pick up. The name on the ID must match the name on the authorized pickup list.

On inclement weather days, we ask that parents monitor their email and/or our social media platforms for updates regarding indoor vs. outdoor pick-up and drop-off.

Q: What are your ratios?

At ActiveU, our ratios are as follows:

  • Wolf Pup Division  – 1:8
  • Lightning Division – 1:10
  • Thunder Division – 1:12

Q: I have children of various ages who want to be grouped together – how should I register them?

We ask that you please register your children in the appropriate age division based on their birth year. Having our camp groups divided by age allows for our staff to facilitate the safest, and most developmentally appropriate activities, particularly when it comes to sport and physical activity!

However, campers will have time throughout the day where they participate in large group/camp wide activities!

Q: Does ActiveU accept volunteers?

Stay tuned for volunteer information for Summer 2024!
