Description: Join us this fall for a fun, engaging basketball experience designed for young athletes to build skills, gain confidence, and develop a love for the game! Our skills-and-games-based approach ensures every player is active, learning, and having fun from start to finish.

Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the first time or looking to sharpen their abilities, our sessions focus on:

  • Fundamental skills (dribbling, passing, shooting, movement)
  • Age-appropriate drills and challenges
  • Fun, competitive games to put skills into action
  • Positive encouragement in a team atmosphere with Thunderwolves

  • Coed Mini (Pre-k through SK) – 9:00 am to 9:45 am – $50
  • Girls Grades 1 through 3 – 10:00 am to 11:00 am – $65
  • Girls Grades 4 through 6 – 11:00 am to 12:00 pm – $65

coed pd day camp (sep 26)

Description: Take your shot to the next level! This 3-hour intensive camp is designed for players in Grades 3–8 who want to improve their shooting skills through focused instruction, high-rep drills, and game-speed practice.

Led by Lakehead University Women’s Basketball Head Coaches and players, athletes will work on:

  • Shooting fundamentals and proper mechanics
  • Footwork, balance, and shot preparation
  • Finishing moves around the basket
  • Range, accuracy, and consistency
  • Drills to bring home and work on after

Players will get hundreds of quality reps while also applying skills in competitive shooting games and challenges.

Details:

  • Who: Grades 3–8
  • Length: 3 hours of on-court training
  • Focus: Shooting technique, confidence, and scoring ability

  • Grades 3-8 – 9:00 am to 12:00 pm – $45

2025-2026 LAKEHEAD BASKETBALL SKILLS ACADEMY

Description: Lakehead Basketball Skills Academy is the place for youth girls basketball development. Thunderwolves Varsity coaches and players will lead sessions where the focus is on skill acquisition and decision making. Participants can expect to be a part of a fun, inclusive and challenging training environment. They will develop their skills and have an opportunity to apply them in small sided games.

Location: This program runs out of the PACI Gymnasium at 401 Red River Rd for all sessions Grade 4 & up. JK through Grade 3 sessions run at the Fieldhouse Gym at 955 Sanders Drive.

  • NOTE: Dec 7 sessions will be moved from PACI to the Fieldhouse Gym due to student exams

Program Dates: October 19th through until Mar 19th. No sessions will be held Dec 14 through Dec 29 (inclusive) due to winter holidays. Sessions will resume on Sunday, January 4th. There WILL be sessions on Family Day Week (Feb 15/16). ​​

Divisions/Days/Times:

For Grade 4 & up, please be aware Sunday Sessions will be skill session oriented, with an emphasis on drills. Monday sessions will be focused on Scrimmages and game play. Registration is available for either Sundays Only, Mondays Only, or Both Days!

  • JK & SK Division – Sundays, 11:00 am – 11:45 am
  • Grade 1 to 3 Division – Sundays, 11:45 am – 12:30 pm
  • Grade 4 to 6 Division – Sundays 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm and/or Mondays 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  • Grade 7 to 9 Division – Sundays 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and/or Mondays 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Cost:

  • JK through Grade 3 Divisions – $170
  • Grade 4 to 9 Divisions:
    • Single Day Registration – $225
    • Both Days – $400

Registration Instructions

  1. Navigate to our registration portal at: https://luathletics.lakeheadu.ca/
  2. Log in to your account by clicking “Sign In” at the top right of our registration portal. Be sure to use the main username/email box to sign in,  unless you are a lakehead faculty, student, or staff. If you are a current lakehead faculty, student, or staff with a MyInfo login, please select “click here for Lakehead User login” and use those credentials.
    1. For first time users, hit “sign up” at the bottom of the pop up box. Please create your user account using the parents information. Do not create the account in your child’s name.
    2. If you do not remember your username or password, you can hit “trouble logging in” to get your username sent to you or request a password reset email. You can also email athleticsfrontdesk@lakeheadu.ca or activeu@lakeheadu.ca for account access support
  3. Navigate to your program of choice by going to Program Registration, selecting the classification “Youth Programs”, and then selecting the correct “Semester (which is Spring/Summer 2025 for spring league”. You can narrow your search further by “Category” if desired (ActiveU, Basketball, etc.)
  4. Select your desired program.
  5. Click “Register” next to the offering you are wanting to register for. Then, click “register” next to your child’s name. If your child is not there, click “add a family member” to create their profile
    1. If the register button is missing, it is likely that you or your child are missing a birthday on your profile! You can edit or add birthdays by hitting your username in the top right corner of the page. You’ll need to change the ‘Viewing As’ person to the individual whose birthday you are trying to change, and then can hit the edit button.
  6. Complete the camp registration steps
    1. For the waiver page, be sure to click on the grey box and then sign in the white pop up box
    2. For the custom prompts, make sure you have selected a response for all required questions
