Coach Kip Sigsworth and the Lakehead University Cross Country Running and Indoor Track Program is extremely excited to announce Paige Kobe as their first recruit for the 2017 year. Paige comes to Lakehead from Parkdale Collegiate Institute in Toronto and is a part of Toronto Olympic Club.
A relatively new comer to running, Paige had a great senior high school cross-country season finishing 26th at the OFSAA Championships this past November. On the track she has personal bests of 4:59 in the 1500m and 10:41 in the 3,000m.
Paige explains, “I chose Lakehead because I can see myself excelling there in all walks of life. It offers different opportunities and experiences from what I’ve grown up with. I instantly felt accepted and welcomed. The small school size and the communal atmosphere of the school really appeal to me. Athletically I am given opportunities to compete and train to chase down my dreams. It’s a place where I can become the best version of myself.”
Coach Kip Sigsworth:
“We are super excited to have Paige joining us next year. She is the kind of person we look for when we recruit; a great student, enthusiastic, hardworking, self-motivated, and team oriented. Athletically she has shown the ability to compete at a high level already but I feel like she is just getting started and has lots of room to improve and grow. We are looking to build the women’s program and we couldn’t have started with a better person than Paige.”
Greg Purkis, Coach with the Toronto Olympic Club, speaks very highly of the work ethic and dedication Paige displays as a young student athlete. “When Paige joined our training group she made an immediate impact. She demonstrates an uncommon drive for growth and a true love of the sport and has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities, proving to be a strong role model for the younger developing athletes in the club. Working with Paige has been such a great experience for me as a coach; it is rare to find such a mature and driven athlete at this stage in their running career. I have enjoyed working with Paige as one of my runners, and I am very excited to see what Paige will accomplish in her next stage of life as an athlete at Lakehead.”
Paige will be studying Chemical Engineering as she enters her first year at Lakehead University in the fall.
