Join the Wrestling Team in their youth development programs this Fall at the Hangar! For full details/descriptions, please see the offerings below.

  • Play Like a Wrestler (Boys and Girls Ages 6 to 9) – Sundays, 12 to 1 pm, Oct 19 to Dec 7 (7 weeks)
  • Develop Like a Wrestler (Youth Ages 10 to 13) – Sundays 1 to 2 pm, Oct 19 to Dec 7 (7 weeks)
  • Train Like a Wrestler (Youth Ages 14 to 18) – Sundays 1 to 2 pm, Oct 19 to Dec 7 (7 weeks)

Location: Lakehead University Hangar (enter through Main Wolf Den Entrance, not Hangar Doors)

Cost: $75 for full session. Drop-in available at $15/session. 

Registration Opens Aug 20 at 9:00 am at this link! 

Drop in will be available at a later date closer to the session start. 

Play Like a Wrestler – BOYS Division

This fun and safe program introduces your child to the exciting world of wrestling through playful exercises, teamwork, and basic grappling movements. Our instructors focus on body awareness, coordination, and confidence-building through play.

Through engaging activities, your child will develop strength, balance, and discipline, while learning to interact positively with others in a supportive environment. Perfect for parents looking to instill healthy habits and self-confidence in their young ones, our program offers an inclusive, welcoming space for all skill levels.

Play Like a Wrestler – GIRLS Division

Unleash the strength, confidence, and determination within your daughter with our “Play Like a Wrestler” program, designed just for girls aged 6-9! This empowering and fun-filled program introduces your child to the world of wrestling through playful exercises, teamwork, and basic grappling movements – all in a supportive and safe environment.

Our female-focused instructors emphasize body awareness, balance, coordination, and, most importantly, self-confidence. Through exciting activities and challenges, your daughter will build strength and discipline while learning to collaborate and communicate with others in a positive way.

This program is perfect for parents who want to encourage their daughters to develop healthy habits, embrace their power, and feel confident in their abilities. We offer a welcoming, inclusive space for all skill levels – whether she’s new to wrestling or already loves the sport, there’s a place for her here!

Develop Like a Wrestler – For Youth Ages 10 to 13

Set your child up for success on the mat with “Develop Like a Wrestler” – a specialized training program for kids aged 10–13 that focuses on building a rock-solid foundation in wrestling fundamentals. Perfect for beginner wrestlers or those looking to refine their core skills, this circuit-style training blends technique, conditioning, and athletic development in a fun, challenging, and supportive environment.

Led by expert coaches, each session combines dynamic wrestling drills with strength, agility, and endurance training. Athletes will improve explosive power, flexibility, balance, and body control – all essential for success in wrestling and transferable to any sport.

Whether your child is stepping onto the mat for the first time or aiming to sharpen their fundamentals, “Develop Like a Wrestler” provides the structure, guidance, and motivation they need to grow.

Open to all athletes – no wrestling experience required. Give your child the head start they need to thrive in wrestling and beyond!

Train Like a Wrestler – For Youth Ages 14 to 18

Help your teen lay the groundwork for wrestling success with “Train Like a Wrestler” – a high-energy training program for youth aged 14–18 that’s perfect for new wrestlers and athletes looking to master or reinforce their fundamentals.

Led by experienced coaches, each session blends wrestling-specific technique with strength, speed, agility, and endurance training. Our circuit-style format keeps workouts challenging and engaging, while building the essential skills needed to compete with confidence.

Beyond the physical, “Train Like a Wrestler” develops the mental side of the sport – teaching perseverance, focus, and resilience. Teens learn to embrace challenges, push past limits, and cultivate the discipline that fuels success both on the mat and in life.

Whether your teen is stepping into wrestling for the first time or aiming to sharpen their foundation for competition, this program delivers the tools, coaching, and mindset they need to grow.

All athletes welcome – no previous wrestling experience required.

Instructions for Registering:

  1. Navigate to our registration portal at: https://luathletics.lakeheadu.ca/
  2. Log in to your account by clicking “Sign In” at the top right of our registration portal. Be sure to use the main username/email box to sign in,  unless you are a lakehead faculty, student, or staff. If you are a current lakehead faculty, student, or staff with a MyInfo login, please select “click here for Lakehead User login” and use those credentials.
    1. For first time users, hit “sign up” at the bottom of the pop up box. Please create your user account using the parents information. Do not create the account in your child’s name.
    2. If you do not remember your username or password, you can hit “trouble logging in” to get your username sent to you or request a password reset email. You can also email athleticsfrontdesk@lakeheadu.ca or activeu@lakeheadu.ca for account access support
  3. Navigate to your program of choice by going to Program Registration, selecting the classification “Youth Programs”, and then selecting the correct “Semester”. You can narrow your search further by “Category” if desired (ActiveU, Basketball, etc.)
  4. Select your desired program.
  5. Click “Register” next to the offering you are wanting to register for. Then, click “register” next to your child’s name. If your child is not there, click “add a family member” to create their profile
    1. If the register button is missing, it is likely that you or your child are missing a birthday on your profile! You can edit or add birthdays by hitting your username in the top right corner of the page. You’ll need to change the ‘Viewing As’ person to the individual whose birthday you are trying to change, and then can hit the edit button.
  6. Complete the camp registration steps
    1. For the waiver page, be sure to click on the grey box and then sign in the white pop up box
    2. For the custom prompts, make sure you have selected a response for all required questions
